Buckwheat was nicknamed "Bucky" by his foster mom. He is a sweet boy who loves to snuggle with you on the couch or in bed. He’s a bit shy at first, but once he trusts you, he’ll love to chase Mr. String, that red laser dot or any mousie you might throw his way. Wrestling with his brother, Barley, is his favorite thing to do, second only to curling up on your lap to sleep. Buckwheat is FIV+ but despite being a little more susceptible to the occasional infection due to a reduced immune system, he should lead an otherwise normal life. He likely acquired this disease from his mom and since he is an easygoing guy it is unlikely that he will spread it to his brother or future housemates. He had pneumonia as a kitten and sometimes still breathes loudly when excited. The vet thinks he has some residual scarring and might always have some airway noise. Buckwheat and Barley are a great pair and will make a wonderful addition to most families!
Buckwheat is FIV+, but don’t let that scare you! FIV+ cats can live long and healthy lives. They can also live safely with FIV negative cats. FIV is spread through severe bite wounds, so it is important that your kitties get along. To learn more about FIV, please read the articles under the Advice tab.
